NWFL unveil mandatory digital registration and licensing Portal for 2025/26 season
The Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) has officially launched a mandatory digital portal for player registration and club licensing ahead of the 2025/26 Premiership season. The system went live on Friday, November 14, 2025.
The development, announced by NWFL Media Director Samuel Ahmadu, marks a major step in the league’s push to modernise its administrative framework and strengthen regulatory compliance.
Confirming the move, Chief Operating Officer Modupe Shabi described the platform as a transformative upgrade in the league’s governance standards.
“This platform is designed to eliminate manual delays, minimise documentation errors, and provide real-time oversight of all registration activities. It is an important step toward making the NWFL more efficient and globally competitive,” she said.
Shabi further noted that the portal’s verification tools will help curb recurring issues such as age falsification, dual registration, and irregular player movement.
“The system gives the league the ability to authenticate documents instantly. It strengthens integrity, ensures accountability, and aligns us with international best practices,” she added.
The initiative, strongly endorsed by club representatives during the recent Congress in Port Harcourt, was approved as a critical step in improving organisational efficiency and solidifying league structures.
Under the revised Registration and Club Licensing Regulations, all clubs must complete their player registration solely through the portal between November 14 and 21, 2025.
Required documents include national identification, passport photographs, verified age records, academic certificates, medical fitness reports, and digitally signed player contracts.
Licensing submissions will also require coaching licences, stadium certification, audited financial statements, ownership documents, and proof of youth development structures.
According to the NWFL secretariat, the digital portal is also expected to boost the league’s marketability by improving transparency, data integrity, and administrative professionalism, key factors in attracting sponsors, commercial partners, and global collaborations.
