Nigeria Police hails Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel's historic Commonwealth Games gold
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has celebrated the historic achievement of Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel following his gold medal triumph at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nathaniel produced a commanding performance in the men's 400 metres hurdles final on Friday night, storming to victory in 48.47 seconds to secure the Commonwealth title. The feat marks a remarkable turnaround from his sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, reflecting his resilience, discipline and unwavering determination.
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Riliwan Disu, PSC (+), NPM, praised Corporal Nathaniel for bringing honour to both Nigeria and the Nigeria Police Force on the global stage. According to the IGP, the athlete's outstanding performance is a shining example of excellence, dedication and professionalism for officers across the Force.
The Force leadership described the victory as a testament to the Nigeria Police Force's sustained investment in sports development, personnel welfare and capacity building. It noted that Nathaniel's success aligns with the IGP's Strategic Agenda, which prioritises the identification, nurturing and support of sporting talent within the Force.
The leadership further reaffirmed its commitment to promoting sports as a vital tool for enhancing tactical fitness, boosting institutional morale and fostering positive youth engagement across the country.
