Nigeria U-18 handball team begins camp ahead of African Cadet Championship
Head Coach of Nigeria’s U-18 men’s handball team, Abdulhakim Yakubu, has invited 23 players to camp in Abuja as preparations intensify for the 22nd African Cadets Men’s Championship in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.
The young national team has already commenced intensive training, with the coaching crew focusing on fitness, technical development, tactical awareness and team cohesion ahead of the continental tournament.
Nigeria has been drawn in Group B alongside Tunisia, Algeria and Madagascar in what promises to be a challenging first-round campaign.
The other groups comprise Egypt, Cameroon and Congo in Group A; Morocco, Libya and Rwanda in Group C; while Guinea, hosts Côte d’Ivoire, Zambia and Burundi are in Group D.
The Nigerian squad comprises players across seven positions.
Goalkeepers:
Shuaibu Fridaymicheal, Shuaibu Muhammad and Lawal Muhammad.
Centre Backs:
Aliyu Rufai, Sani Muntari, Friday Pagiel and Sulaimon Abayomi Fashogbon.
Left Backs:
Godstime Michael, Usman Umar and Samuel Achama.
Right Backs:
Huzaifa Abdulkadir, Obieze Akunebu, Gana Abubakar Tauhidi and Muhammed Yahaya.
Left Wings:
Chikelu Chidiebere Divine, Hamza Yahaya, Aminu Dahiru and Abdulrahman Sani.
Right Wings:
Umar Mohammed, Abdullahi Abubakar and Zulkifilu Muhammed.
Pivots:
Akibu Muhammad and Dominion Abukhate.
Coach Yakubu will be assisted by Ayo Joshua as the technical team continues to fine-tune the squad for the championship.
Organised by the Confederation of African Handball (CAHB), the African Cadets Men’s Championship offers an important platform for the continent’s emerging handball talents to gain international experience and showcase their potential.
With the Nigerian players already in camp, the focus is now on building a strong and cohesive side capable of competing effectively against some of Africa’s leading youth handball nations in Abidjan.
