Nigeria vs Comoros: Preview, Kick-olff time, Venue, How to Watch and Probable XI

Nigeria will look to complete the job against Comoros when both teams meet in the second leg, second round qualifying tie of their Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State, on Tuesday.

The Super Falcons head into the return fixture with a 2–0 aggregate advantage following their victory in the first leg on October 9, when second-half goals from Michelle Alozie and Uchenna Kanu secured the win for interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side.

Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. Nigerian time, with the Super Falcons seeking to advance to the third round of the African qualifying series for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

Super Falcons Carry Two-Goal Advantage

Nigeria dominated much of the first leg but had to wait until after the interval to turn their pressure into goals.

Alozie broke the deadlock in the 48th minute after Gift Monday directed a cross into the danger area. Kanu then doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 60th minute, heading home from a corner delivered by Jennifer Echegini.

The result gave Nigeria a valuable cushion ahead of the return match, although the team will still need to maintain its defensive discipline and attacking focus to secure progression.

Comoros, meanwhile, must find a way to overturn the two-goal deficit if they are to remain in contention for a place in the next round.

Why Both Legs Are Being Played in Nigeria

Although Comoros were designated as the home team for the first leg, both matches are taking place in Nigeria because the island nation does not have a stadium approved by the Confederation of African Football for the fixture.

The first encounter was therefore staged at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, which will also host Tuesday’s return leg.

The familiar venue gives both teams continuity, but the Super Falcons must ensure their first-leg advantage translates into qualification.

Eguavoen Faces Another Test

Eguavoen took charge of the Super Falcons for the Olympic qualifying fixtures as the Nigeria Football Federation continues its search for a substantive head coach.

The first leg provided opportunities for emerging players, with former Falconets captain Joy Igbokwe making her senior debut. Janet Akekoromowei and Suliat Abideen also earned their first senior international caps during the encounter.

Established players, including captain Rasheedat Ajibade, goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie and defender Alozie, are expected to remain important figures as Nigeria pursue qualification.

The technical crew’s selection for the second leg will be closely watched, particularly as Nigeria balance the need to protect their aggregate lead with the opportunity to improve their attacking efficiency.

Comoros Hope to Respond

Comoros reached the second round after an emphatic 30–0 aggregate victory over Sudan, demonstrating their ability to score heavily against opposition in the opening stage.

However, the challenge against Nigeria has been considerably different. The Super Falcons restricted Comoros from scoring in the first leg and converted two second-half opportunities to take control of the tie.

The visitors will need a more effective attacking performance in the return fixture while avoiding defensive errors that could further strengthen Nigeria’s position.

What Is at Stake?

The aggregate winner will progress to the third round of the African qualifying series, where Morocco await after advancing following the withdrawal of the Republic of Congo.

Nigeria are seeking a second consecutive appearance at the Olympic women’s football tournament after returning to the Games at Paris 2024, ending a 16-year absence.

With only two African teams ultimately set to qualify for Los Angeles 2028, every round will be important for the Super Falcons’ campaign.
