Nottingham Forest sign Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa

Nottingham Forest have completed the signing of Super Falcons forward Joy Omewa from Danish side Fortuna Hjørring, further underlining the rapid rise of the highly rated 23-year-old attacker.

The club confirmed the acquisition in a statement on its official website on Tuesday, announcing that the Nigerian international has joined on a permanent deal, with a contract running until the end of the 2025–26 season.

Omewa began her football journey in Nigeria with Confluence Queens, where she emerged as one of the country’s most exciting attacking prospects before taking a significant step abroad. In April 2021, she moved to Denmark to join Boldklubben af 1893 (B.93), making an instant impression with three goals in nine appearances.

Her strong start earned her a switch to the Danish top flight later that year, as she completed a transfer to Fortuna Hjørring in November 2021. Omewa went on to enjoy a prolific spell with the club, scoring over 50 goals across five seasons and establishing herself as one of the league’s standout forwards.

During her time at Fortuna, she lifted the Danish Women’s Cup twice and played a pivotal role in the club’s Kvindeligaen title triumph in the 2024–25 campaign. Her influence was particularly evident in the league-and-cup double-winning season, where she was named Kvindeligaen Player of the Season.

On the international stage, Omewa represented Nigeria at U17 and U20 levels before making her senior debut last year. She has since featured for the Super Falcons in their two-legged victory over Benin, a result that sealed Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Nottingham Forest Women head coach Carly Davies expressed delight over the signing, highlighting the forward’s quality and potential impact.

“We are absolutely thrilled to welcome Joy Omewa to Nottingham Forest,” Davies said. “Joy’s incredible goal-scoring prowess speaks for itself. She’s a dynamic forward with a natural instinct in front of goal, and her ability to score consistently at both club and international level makes her a fantastic addition to our squad.”

Omewa also shared her excitement about the move, describing Forest as an ambitious club and embracing the new challenge ahead.

“I am delighted to sign for Nottingham Forest. It’s an ambitious club and I’m excited to be part of this team,” she said. “I can’t wait to get started and I believe I can add a lot to an already talented group.”

With a proven scoring record in Denmark and growing international experience, Omewa now arrives at Nottingham Forest eager to continue her upward trajectory and make an immediate impact in English football.
