Samuel Onikeku hails Nigeria Customs Women's team after clinching 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League title

Head of Sports at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Samuel Onikeku, has praised the exceptional performance of the Nigeria Customs Service Women’s Volleyball Team after they secured the 2025 CGC Volleyball Premier League title with three matches left to play.

Speaking in Abuja on Thursday, Onikeku reflected on the team’s remarkable campaign, attributing their dominance to strategic restructuring and the introduction of youthful talents.

“We opened camp to try to change our team. We brought in younger players, and this is the first time that with three matches to go, we’ve already won the league,” he said.

“Last season, the women’s team won the CGC Volleyball League on the last day. I’m very proud of the team, the coordinators, the coaches, the team managers, and the players. It’s been a long way coming—going through the first phase unbeaten in 10 matches, and now achieving this milestone. It means a lot, especially coming from our victory in Ghana.”

Onikeku emphasized that despite the early title win, the team remains focused on even bigger ambitions as they continue to develop a squad capable of competing beyond Nigeria and West Africa.

“As we have always said, we want to do well, and we are still in the process of fortifying our team. We don’t want to be just national champions or regional champions. We believe Nigeria should be able to stand and face the North Africans,” he stated.

He added that the long-term development plan for the team will become more evident next year as preparations intensify for major continental tournaments.

With the league title firmly secured, the Nigeria Customs women’s team is now aiming to consolidate their domestic dominance and mount a strong challenge on the African stage.
