Stanley Nwabali: Super Eagles goalkeeper waits for next move
Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has confirmed he is currently without a club after mutually parting ways with South African side Chippa United, insisting he is in no hurry to decide the next chapter of his career.
The 29-year-old, who joined Chippa United in 2022, revealed that despite widespread speculation linking him with clubs across Africa, there are no concrete contract offers on the table at the moment. Nwabali is now officially a free agent, carefully weighing his options as he looks ahead.
Speaking on Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube, the former Enyimba and Katsina United goalkeeper dismissed suggestions that he is under pressure to secure a new deal.
“There is no contract in front, there is no club in front,” Nwabali said. “I’m not guaranteeing that a club will come today or tomorrow. I’m not desperate.”
Nwabali has been linked with several high-profile sides, including Raja Casablanca, Simba SC of Tanzania, and Kaizer Chiefs, but he was quick to clarify that discussions have not progressed beyond speculation.
“Whatever club comes, if it suits my agent and it suits me, I am going to play,” he added. “Football is about happiness. I was happy at Chippa, but sometimes decisions like this are understandable for both parties.”
The Super Eagles goalkeeper also opened up on the emotional weight behind his decision to request a move following Nigeria’s third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. According to Nwabali, leaving was not easy, but it was necessary.
“It was a tough decision. It’s not a nice feeling,” he admitted. “But in football, you have to take steps forward. It was something I really needed to do, and there was a very good understanding between both sides. We both felt it was the best decision.”
With interest reportedly coming from within South Africa and beyond, Nwabali is expected to take his time before committing to a new project one that aligns with both his ambitions and personal fulfillment as he enters the next phase of his career.
