Super Falcons target Comoros victory to reach Third Round of 2028 Olympic Qualifiers

Nigeria’s Super Falcons will aim to secure a place in the third round of the African qualifying series for the 2028 Olympic Women’s Football Tournament when they face Comoros in the second leg of their tie on Tuesday.

The 10-time African champions head into the encounter with a 2-0 advantage following Friday’s first-leg victory, courtesy of goals from defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu.

Nigeria are seeking a second consecutive Olympic appearance after featuring at the Paris 2024 Games, their first participation in the women’s football event in 16 years.

Comoros’ lack of a CAF-approved venue for international matches has given Nigeria home advantage for both legs of the fixture, with the matches taking place at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo.

For Friday’s encounter, interim head coach Augustine Eguavoen and his assistants deployed Chiamaka Nnadozie in goal, with Glory Ogbonna and Michelle Alozie operating as wing-backs. Christy Ucheibe and Shukurat Oladipo formed the central defensive partnership.

Debutant Joy Igbokwe, Toni Payne and Jennifer Echegini featured in midfield, while captain Rasheedat Ajibade, Gift Monday and Uchenna Kanu led the attack.

The coaching crew could make changes to the starting line-up on Tuesday, with young goalkeeper Christiana Uzoma among the options available.

Farida Abdulwahab and Tumininu Adeshina are also available for defensive duties, while Suliat Abideen could earn a starting role after impressing as a second-half substitute in the first leg.

In attack, former Nigeria U-17 captain Shakirat Moshood and Folashade Ijamilusi are among the options, alongside Belarus-based duo Blessing Nkor and Blessing Okpe, as well as Sweden-based forward Joy Omewa.

With a two-goal cushion from the first leg, the Super Falcons will look to complete the job and keep their Olympic qualification campaign on track.

Should Nigeria progress, they will face Morocco in the third-round fixture scheduled for March 2027.
