Nigeria’s table tennis star Quadri Aruna continued his impressive start to the French Pro B season, producing another commanding performance as Amiens STT secured a second consecutive victory with a 3-0 win over Nantes TT on Tuesday, September 29.

 Aruna, who joined Amiens in May with the aim of helping the club secure promotion back to France’s elite Pro A division, played a key role in the Week 2 triumph.

 The fixture attracted additional attention with Nigerian table tennis legend Segun Toriola featuring in the Nantes lineup, creating a notable meeting between two generations of Nigerian stars.

 Buoyed by their hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lille in their opening match, Amiens approached the encounter with confidence. The squad combines Aruna, its highest-ranked player, with considerable international experience, including former European champion João Monteiro of Portugal, Austria’s Robert Gardos and South Korean star Cho Seungmin.

 Aruna was selected to open the tie against André Silva, his former teammate at Sporting Clube de Portugal. The Nigerian endured a difficult start, losing the opening game 11-7, but quickly regained control.

 Using his trademark attacking style and sustained intensity, Aruna dominated the next three games, winning 11-5, 11-8 and 11-3 to give Amiens an early 1-0 lead.

 Cho Seungmin then doubled the visitors’ advantage against Toriola. The South Korean delivered a composed performance to defeat the Nigerian veteran 11-5, 11-6 and 11-5, leaving Amiens within one victory of securing the tie.

 Monteiro completed the job against Turkey’s Ibrahim Gunduz in a competitive encounter. Although the Portuguese player prevailed 3-0, the match was closely fought, with Monteiro taking the games 11-9, 12-10 and 11-7.

 The victory preserved Amiens’ perfect start to the campaign and kept the club among the leading teams in the Pro B standings.

 Elsewhere, Algeria’s Stephane Ouaiche helped Caen TTC to a 3-0 victory over Proville ASL, while compatriot Mehdi Bouloussa and Courbevoie STT fell 3-1 to Boulogne Billancourt AC. Nigerian duo Olajide Omotayo and Taiwo Mati were unused substitutes as La Havre defeated Miramas AS 3-1 away from home.

 After two rounds, Amiens remained among the early pace-setters alongside Caen TTC and Pontoise-Cergy.

 Aruna and his teammates will next turn their attention to a Week 3 home fixture against Compiégnois TT on October 23, as they look to maintain their strong start and continue their promotion campaign.
