President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the full redemption of the Federal Government’s cash reward package promised to members of Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following their historic achievement.

Tinubu on Thursday disclosed that each D’Tigress player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while every official received the equivalent of $50,000.

The payment completes the cash component of the presidential reward package, which also includes national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja for members of the team.

According to the President, the completion of the payments marks the first time a Federal Government has fulfilled a presidential sporting reward package of such scale in full within one year.

“Today, the rewards I promised our D’Tigress have been fully redeemed.

“Each player has received the naira equivalent of $100,000, while each official has received the equivalent of $50,000, completing their package of cash rewards, national honours and three-bedroom homes in Abuja,” Tinubu said.

The President explained that the delay in completing the commitments was due to the need to follow the required legal and administrative processes.

“For the first time, a Federal Government has fulfilled this scale of presidential sporting rewards in full within one year. We had to follow the processes required by law and ensure that every commitment was properly implemented.

“That took time, but a promise made must be a promise kept,” he added.

Tinubu also disclosed that the outstanding cash rewards promised to members of the Super Falcons are being concluded.

“The outstanding cash rewards for our Super Falcons are also being concluded,” the President said.

He noted that the Super Falcons players and officials had already received title documents for their house allocations as well as their National Honours certificates.

“Likewise, the promise of houses and national honours I made to Super Eagles players has since been redeemed,” Tinubu stated.

The President said the Federal Government’s reward system was designed to recognise athletes whose performances bring honour to the country, stressing that sporting achievements should attract meaningful national appreciation.

“Our athletes who bring honour to Nigeria deserve more than applause. They deserve a country that keeps its word,” Tinubu said.

He further urged Nigerian athletes to continue representing the country with pride, assuring them of a grateful nation upon their return from international competitions.

“My promise to every Nigerian athlete is: make Nigeria proud and come back to a grateful nation,” he said.

Tinubu congratulated the D’Tigress once again, describing their achievement as a source of pride for the country.

“Congratulations once again, our athletes. Nigeria is proud of you,” he added.

The latest development completes the major reward commitments made to the D’Tigress following their remarkable success on the international stage and further signals the Federal Government’s intention to strengthen incentives for Nigerian athletes who achieve outstanding results for the country.
