Teenage sensation Toheebat Adebisi Jimoh has continued to win admiration across the athletics community after playing a key role in Team Nigeria’s gold medal triumph in the 4x400m mixed relay at the ongoing African Senior Athletics Championship in Accra.
The youngster’s impressive display drew glowing praise from former Nigerian Olympian Yusuf Alli, who described her performance as a reflection of the bright future awaiting Nigerian athletics.
Speaking after Nigeria’s thrilling relay victory, the Chief Executive Officer of the Podium Performance Commission commended the entire mixed relay squad for their discipline, determination, and flawless execution during the race.
However, Alli admitted that Toheebat’s composure under pressure stood out most for him, especially considering her age and the magnitude of the championship.
“All credit must go to the athletes and coaches for the incredible job they are doing. Winning gold at this level is never easy, but what impressed me most was the confidence and maturity shown by young Toheebat Adebisi Jimoh.
For a teenager to perform with such composure on a stage like the African Championship speaks volumes about her future,” Alli stated.
The former long jump star also stressed that the emergence of young talents like Toheebat signals a new era for Nigerian athletics, adding that the country is gradually assembling a generation capable of competing favourably on the global stage.
According to him, the teenager’s performances at both the recent World Relays and the ongoing championship in Ghana prove that Nigeria still possesses world class talents ready to shine internationally.
“The future of Nigerian athletics lies in the youth, and that is exactly what Toheebat and several others have shown from the World Relays to this championship in Accra.
They are proving that Nigeria still possesses enormous talent capable of competing with the very best in the world,” he added.
Nigeria’s gold medal victory in the mixed relay has further strengthened the country’s medal push at the championship, with Team Nigeria continuing to impress in several events in Accra.
