FCT FA Inter Councils Women's Tournament Kicks Off with Victories for AMAC and Kwali
The highly anticipated FCT FA Inter-Area Councils Women’s Football Tournament commenced with great enthusiasm, as AMAC and Kwali achieved notable victories in their opening matches on Thursday, April 10, 2025.
This inaugural event, organized by the FCT Football Association through its Women’s Football Committee, aims to foster talent identification and promote gender inclusivity in football across all six Area Councils.
In the initial matches, AMAC secured a 2-0 win against Bwari at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Practice Pitch, while Kwali dominated with a 9-1 victory over Abaji at the Abaji Football Pitch.
Following the kickoff match at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Mr. Kayode Adeniyi, General Manager of NTA Sports, expressed his support for the initiative.
“This tournament represents a significant and timely effort to empower young girls through sports. What we are witnessing transcends football; it embodies social impact, community development, and youth engagement,” stated the former Chairman of FCT SWAN.
He further acknowledged Pat Ajuma Ayegba for her innovative approach and dedication to nurturing girl-child talent. “Her commitment has not only led to the establishment of this landmark tournament but has also revitalized the previously inactive FCT FA Women’s Football League. She is reshaping the narrative.”
Mr. Adeniyi also urged the media to fully support this initiative, emphasizing that these young athletes deserve recognition comparable to that of their male counterparts.
Patrick Bassey, a member of the FCT FA Board and Chairman of the Technical Committee, commended the level of play and highlighted the long-term objectives of the tournament.
“Today, we witnessed not only goals but also glimpses of future stars. The FCT FA is dedicated to laying a solid foundation for women's football through well-structured competitions like this. Our technical team is actively scouting for talents that can advance to the league and national levels.”
FCT FA Board member and chairman of women's football committee, Pat Ajuma Ayegba expressed her pride in the successful kick off.
The tournament will continue as Bwari hosts Gwagwalada while Abaji will be on the road to face Kwali on Saturday.
On Monday, Kuje will welcome Abaji, while AMAC will be guests to Gwagwalada.
