Uchenna Kanu leaves Racing Louisville after three seasons

Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has officially ended her spell with Racing Louisville FC, following the club’s announcement of returning and departing players ahead of the 2026 National Women’s Soccer League season.

Racing Louisville confirmed on Wednesday, November 26, that Kanu, along with five other players, will enter free agency and will not be returning to the club. The Nigerian international joined Louisville on February 2, 2023, from Tigres UANL, signing a two-year contract with an option for a third season.

Kanu made an immediate impression in her first year, featuring in 19 matches, seven as a starter and scoring her debut goal on May 31 against the Chicago Red Stars in the Challenge Cup. She built on that momentum in 2024, despite a knee injury that sidelined her for the final two months of the campaign. Before the setback, she started 10 of her 12 appearances and scored five goals, including a six-minute brace against the Portland Thorns, the fastest in club history.

During Racing Louisville’s landmark 2025 season, which saw the club reach the NWSL Playoffs for the first time and set new records for wins, Kanu contributed seven appearances and one goal before another knee injury ended her season prematurely.

The club paid tribute to her in a farewell message, saying:

“Part of the Racing family forever. We want to wish all our departing players the very best and thank them for their dedication and passion for the club.”

With experience spanning Spain, Sweden, Mexico, and the United States, all eyes will now be on where the 28-year-old forward chooses to take the next step in her career.
