Victor Osimhen faces injury layoff after scoring against Başakşehir

Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen is reportedly set to miss three matches after suffering an adductor injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir.

Osimhen opened the scoring for the Turkish champions with a powerful finish but was forced off in the 33rd minute after feeling discomfort in his right groin.

The Nigerian was replaced by Barış Alper Yılmaz as Galatasaray eventually secured all three points in a five-goal thriller.

Subsequent medical examinations confirmed that Osimhen had suffered a strain and pain in the right adductor muscle group. Galatasaray confirmed that treatment had begun, although the club initially did not announce a definite recovery timeline.

According to Turkish outlet Le Marca Sports, however, the injury is expected to keep the 27-year-old out of Galatasaray’s next three fixtures.

The reported absence would see Osimhen miss the Turkish champions’ UEFA Champions League meeting with Sporting Lisbon, as well as Super Lig encounters against Kocaelispor and Trabzonspor.

The potential setback comes at a crucial stage of the campaign, with Galatasaray preparing for the return of Champions League football.

Osimhen has made an impressive start to the new season, and his latest goal against Başakşehir further underlined his importance to Okan Buruk’s side.

His absence would therefore represent a significant attacking blow for the Turkish champions, particularly with the Sporting Lisbon fixture looming.

There is also concern in Nigeria over the striker’s availability for the Super Eagles’ upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.

However, the extent of Osimhen’s absence remains subject to his recovery. Reports following the club’s medical examinations have stressed that there was initially no officially confirmed return date.

Osimhen will now undergo treatment and rehabilitation as Galatasaray’s medical team monitors his progress.

The Super Eagles forward will be hoping for a swift recovery and a return to action as soon as possible, particularly with a demanding club and international schedule ahead.
