Victor Osimhen's hidden AFCON 2025 battles revealed

Nigeria's senior men's national team head coach Eric Chelle has disclosed that Victor Osimhen battled through injury for the entire duration of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, underlining the striker’s deep commitment to the national team.

The revelation came during Chelle’s appearance on the RMC After Afrique podcast, where he praised the forward’s resilience and winning mentality.

According to Chelle, Osimhen arrived at the tournament already nursing a mild hamstring problem but insisted on featuring for Nigeria regardless of the physical setback.

The coach noted that the Galatasaray star was fully aware of the risks involved but chose to push through in order to support his country’s campaign.

Chelle described the decision as a rare show of courage and sacrifice, stressing that only a handful of players would accept playing under such conditions.

He pointed to Osimhen’s strong mindset and determination as key traits that set him apart from many top level professionals.

Beyond his matchday bravery, the coach also highlighted Osimhen’s relentless training culture.

He portrayed the striker as intensely driven, especially in forward drills, where he constantly pushes himself to meet high scoring standards and is rarely satisfied with average outcomes.

Labeling him “a complete machine,” Chelle added that Osimhen is typically first on the training pitch and the last to leave, driven by an all consuming desire to win trophies and improve daily qualities that continue to make him a central figure for both club and country.
