2024/25 NNL Super 8 Playoffs kick off in Asaba
The 2024/25 Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 playoffs began on a quiet note at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba on Saturday, with just two goals scored across four matches in both the Northern and Southern Conferences.
The Northern Conference produced back-to-back goalless encounters, starting with Barau FC and Yobe Desert Stars, who played out a drab 0-0 draw. The trend continued in the second fixture, where promotion hopefuls Wikki Tourists were held to a stalemate by Doma United, leaving both teams with work to do in their remaining group games.
There was more action in the Southern Conference, where the goals finally arrived. Kun Khalifat edged Crown FC 1-0 in a tightly contested affair. The decisive moment came in the 7th minute when Chijioke Ahiaeke calmly converted from the penalty spot. The early win gives Kun Khalifat a solid start and a strong chance of securing one of the promotion spots.
In the day’s final game, Osun United claimed a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Warri Wolves. Former MFM striker Ebenezer Odeyemi netted the only goal in the first half to hand the Omoluabi Giants all three points. The result marked Warri Wolves’ first defeat of the season, having gone unbeaten throughout the regular campaign.
Action resumes on Monday with the second round of group fixtures scheduled at the same venue.
