2025 African Junior Fencing Championships: Inkosi Brou Clinches Nigeria’s Historic First Medal in Angola
Teenage fencer Inkosi Brou has won Nigeria’s first medal at the 2025 African Junior Fencing Championships in Luanda, Angola, securing bronze.
His achievement marks a milestone for the Nigerian Fencing Federation (NFF) and Sub-Saharan Africa.
The US-based athlete, grandson of the late Professor Dora Akunyili, impressed at the Almaty Saber FIE Junior World Cup in February before claiming Nigeria’s historic medal.
Brou’s rapid rise from unranked in October 2023 to a continental medalist reflects his talent and dedication.
Fellow Nigerian Peluola Akinbamiro missed her first bout due to a last-minute schedule change but remains determined.
The NFF will now focus on the Wuxi World Championship in April and Senior African Championship in June, aiming to further elevate Nigeria’s status in international fencing.
