Funke Akindele Shatters Records with 'Everyone Loves Jenifa'
Funke Akindele’s Everyone Loves Jenifa has become the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time in West Africa, earning over N1.8 billion as of last Friday. The film's huge success has solidified Akindele’s position as the undisputed Queen of the Nollywood Box Office.
The film, which continues the beloved Jenifa franchise, has dominated cinemas for several weeks, holding the No. 1 spot for seven consecutive weekends. It also earned the title of the quickest Nollywood film to hit N500 million in just 12 days, a remarkable achievement in the competitive Nollywood market.
As of December 2024, Everyone Loves Jenifa was celebrated as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of the year, raking in an impressive N511 million. This success follows a string of other blockbuster hits from Akindele, including Omo Ghetto, Battle on Bukka Street, and A Tribe Called Judah, all of which have dominated the box office since 2020.
Partyjolloftv recently published a list of the top 10 highest-grossing Nigerian films, with Akindele’s projects occupying the top four spots. Collectively, her films have grossed over N4.5 billion, making up more than 25% of the total earnings of Nollywood's highest-grossing films, which stands at N18 billion.
Funke Akindele’s success in Nollywood continues to set new standards for the industry, demonstrating her influence and ability to consistently deliver films that relates with audiences across Africa.
