2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup Draw: Nigeria’s Falconets to Discover Group Opponents in Poland
Nigeria women's national under-20 football team will learn their group-stage opponents for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup when the official draw ceremony takes place in Łódź on Friday, May 15.
World football governing body FIFA confirmed that the draw will be broadcast live globally on FIFA+, YouTube, and TikTok, underlining the growing international attention on women’s football and youth development competitions.
The Falconets qualified for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after overcoming Malawi women's national under-20 football team 3-2 on aggregate in the African qualifiers. Nigeria heads into the tournament as one of Africa’s strongest representatives at youth level and one of the most successful teams in the competition’s history, having reached the final twice.
The 12th edition of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will take place from September 5 to 27, 2026, across four Polish host cities — Łódź, Katowice, Bielsko-Biała, and Sosnowiec — with 24 nations competing for the global title.
Nigeria will be aiming for another strong campaign as the Falconets continue their pursuit of a historic first FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup triumph.
Speaking after sealing qualification, Falconets head coach Moses Aduku praised his players for their resilience and determination throughout the qualifying series.
“I am proud of the girls for their commitment and fighting spirit throughout the qualifiers. Malawi gave us a tough challenge, but the players showed character and determination to secure our place at the World Cup,” Aduku said.
The coach added that the technical crew would intensify preparations ahead of the tournament as Nigeria targets another memorable outing on the global stage.
“Qualification is the first objective achieved. Now our focus shifts to preparing properly for the World Cup because we know the level of competition will be very high. Nigeria has a strong history in this tournament, and we want to make the country proud again,” he added.
Former Polish international and current Poland women's national football team coach Nina Patalon alongside French football legend Laura Georges will participate in the draw ceremony.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup is expected to showcase some of the brightest emerging talents in world football, with Nigeria’s Falconets eager to once again reinforce their reputation as one of the elite teams in women’s youth football.
