Abuja 2025 AWVCC: Zamalek captain asserts confidence in overcoming Al Ahly in final
Defending champions Zamalek have triumphed over Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) with a score of 3-2 (25-23, 28-26, 19-25, 24-26, 15-12), securing their place in the final of the ongoing African Women’s Volleyball Inter-Club Championship in Abuja.
The match proved to be a thrilling contest, with the Kenyan team receiving enthusiastic support from the crowd.
Throughout the championship, Zamalek has demonstrated their strength, having lost only one set leading up to the semifinal against KPC.
In an exclusive interview with Persecondnews, the team’s captain, Noura Azmy, expressed her belief in their capability to clinch the title for the third consecutive time.
“We are prepared for the final. We possess the skills necessary to overcome Al-Ahly,” Azmy stated.
She acknowledged the challenges faced during the match against KPC, noting that her team lost two sets due to lapses in focus and fatigue.
“Our coach was actively engaged on the sidelines, providing guidance and ensuring we maintained our energy levels,” she remarked.
The coach also conveyed appreciation for the hospitality extended by the Nigerian people, while recognizing the formidable challenge of defending their title amidst fierce competition.
Zamalek’s women’s volleyball team boasts a distinguished history, having secured their first continental title and representing women’s sports at a commendable level within the club.
The team has excelled in individual accolades throughout the tournament and has made history as the first Egyptian team to qualify for the FIVB Women’s Club World Championship.
Zamalek is set to compete against the ten-time champions Al-Ahly in the final on Sunday, aiming to defend their title and achieve a third consecutive victory.
