Gbenga Ogunbote haunts former club as Plateau United run riot on NPFL Matchday 27
Plateau United emerged as the standout performers on Nigeria Premier Football League matchday 27, delivering a ruthless 4–1 demolition of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) at the New Jos Stadium.
It was a reunion with no room for sentiment as Plateau United head coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, came face-to-face with his former employers for the first time since leaving Ibadan. Despite falling behind early to Qamar Adegoke’s opener for the Oluyole Warriors, the Tin City side responded with authority. Tarabina Biweribo and Daniel Isaiah turned the game around before the break, setting the tone for a dominant display. Second-half strikes from Vincent Temitope and Alao Dabani sealed a comprehensive victory that underlined Plateau United’s resurgence.
In Lagos, Ikorodu City showed character to secure a 1–1 draw against Bayelsa United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Ettah Ikoi had given the visitors a first-half advantage, but substitute and debutant Olanrewaju Molade announced himself in style, curling home a delightful free kick to rescue a point for the home side.
The headline fixture of the weekend in Port Harcourt also ended all square, as Rivers United and Enyimba shared the spoils in a 1–1 draw. Abiodun Joseph put the Aba giants ahead, but Aniekeme Okon struck just before halftime to restore parity for the Pride of Rivers.
Elsewhere, it was a quiet afternoon in Katsina and Warri, with Katsina United held to a goalless draw by Rangers, while Warri Wolves and Barau FC also failed to find the breakthrough.
In Owerri, Kun Khalifat secured a comfortable 2–0 win over Niger Tornadoes, thanks to first-half goals from Adamu Mohammed and Oghenetega Ebetomame. Abia Warriors edged Kwara United 1–0 in Aba, with Casmir Azubuike grabbing the decisive goal, while John Joshua’s solitary strike was enough to hand Nasarawa United a narrow 1–0 victory over Bendel Insurance in Lafia.
Remo Stars’ worrying slide continued as they fell 2–1 to Wikki Tourists, compounding their recent struggles. Kano Pillars, however, enjoyed a timely resurgence, cruising to a 3–0 win over Elkanemi Warriors. Goals from Rabiu Ali, Luis Dadong and Chiedozie Okorie lifted Sai Masu Gida out of the relegation zone for the first time in months, offering renewed hope in their survival push.
