Bandits Abduct Two Councilors, Chief Imam in Zamfara

Armed bandits have abducted two serving councilors and a Chief Imam in Zamfara State.

The victims were identified as Surajo Dangaladima, Councilor representing Gidan Goga Ward, and Rabi’u Bashari, Councilor representing Tsubiri Ward, both of Maradun Local Government Area, alongside the Chief Imam of Tsunami Quarters in Gusau.

The abduction occurred on Wednesday night at Tsunami Quarters. Chairman of Maradun Local Government Council, Hon. Sanusi Dosara, who confirmed the incident, said the attack was carried out in Gusau and not within Maradun. According to him, the bandits had initially targeted a resident of Kaura-Namoda living in the area but resorted to seizing the councilors and the Imam when they could not find their intended victim.

The spokesperson of the Zamfara State Police Command, DSP Yazid Abubakar, also confirmed the development. He disclosed that additional security personnel had been deployed to the area, adding that efforts were ongoing to trace the abductors and rescue the victims.

Abubakar appealed to residents to assist security agencies with timely information on suspicious movements and criminal activities to aid the fight against banditry in the state.
