Bayelsa United tops 2025/26 NPFL log after Matchday two

Plateau United’s search for their first win of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season continues after a shock 2-1 home defeat to Katsina United in Jos on Sunday.

The Tin Boys, who fell to Wikki Tourists on the opening day, came into the clash at the New Jos Stadium desperate to bounce back. Instead, they slumped to a second straight loss, leaving their fans frustrated.

The visitors, nicknamed the Changi Boys, stunned the home crowd with first-half goals from Auwal Sadiq and Uche Collins. Monday Gideon’s late strike gave Plateau hope, but it wasn’t enough to salvage a point.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa United climbed to the top of the table with a convincing 2-0 win over newcomers Barau FC in Yenagoa. Wisdom Magbisa’s penalty on 59 minutes and Ofem Nneoyi’s effort 15 minutes later secured Monday Odigie’s side back-to-back victories following their opening-day win at Shooting Stars.

Elsewhere, it was a weekend of slim home victories. Nasarawa United edged Abia Warriors 1-0 in Lafia courtesy of Ugochukwu Leonard’s early strike, while Enyimba and Rivers United also claimed identical scorelines. New signing Joseph Abiodun scored the winner for Enyimba against Niger Tornadoes, and Friday Ubong fired Rivers United past Kwara United in Port Harcourt.

In Ozoro, Warri Wolves maintained their perfect start, defeating defending champions Rangers 2-0. Godwin Oham struck in first-half stoppage time before Prince Ebhohon sealed the points in the second half.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw by Wikki Tourists. Luis Dadong’s opener for the visitors was canceled out by Mustapha Umar’s equaliser before halftime. Ikorodu City and Elkanemi Warriors played out a goalless draw in Lagos.

On Saturday, Shooting Stars picked up their first point of the campaign with a 1-1 draw away at Bendel Insurance in Benin. The matchweek wraps today as Kun Khalifat face champions Remo Stars at the Enyimba Stadium in Aba.
