Troost Ekong, Nwabali lead Super Eagles final 23 man squad for World Cup Qualifiers
Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle has unveiled his final 23-man Super Eagles squad for next month’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying fixtures against Rwanda and South Africa, trimming down from the initial provisional list.
Captain William Troost-Ekong headlines the squad alongside goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali, who, despite being stretchered off during a league game for Chippa United earlier this week, has been cleared to make the cut. Greece-based shot-stopper Adeleye Adebayo also returns to the fold, joining Amas Obasogie to complete the trio of goalkeepers.
The midfield sees a familiar core with Alex Iwobi, Wilfred Ndidi, Frank Onyeka, Raphael Onyedika and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru all included, while forwards Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Samuel Chukwueze, Simon Moses and Cyriel Dessers provide the attacking firepower.
Defensively, Calvin Bassey, Ola Aina, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chidozie Awaziem, Felix Agu, and Benjamin Fredericks join Troost-Ekong in what looks a balanced backline.
Meanwhile, Chelle has rewarded standout performers from the recent Unity Cup, with Felix Agu and Benjamin Fredericks making the final list. Forwards Christantus Uche and Tolu Arokodare, who impressed in June’s friendly against Russia, have also been named.
The Super Eagles open their September international window against the Amavubi of Rwanda at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo on Saturday, September 6 (Matchday 7) before traveling to Bloemfontein to face Bafana Bafana of South Africa on Tuesday, September 9 (Matchday 8).
