CAF releases final CHAN 2024 match officials list
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the final list of match officials selected for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN), and notably, no Nigerian referee was selected.
A total of 70 officials will take part in the tournament, which runs from August 2 to 30 across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The list includes 26 referees, 26 assistant referees, and 18 Video Match Officials (VMOs), drawn from more than 30 CAmember associations across the continent.
Among the standout names are Morocco’s Bouchra Karboubi and Uganda’s Shamirah Nabadda, two prominent women referees who continue to break barriers in African football. The assistant referees’ list also features seasoned professionals like Diana Chikotesha from Zambia and Cameroon’s Atezambong Fomo Carine.
On the VMO side, experienced officials such as Mahmoud Ashour (Egypt), Samir Guezzaz (Morocco), and Ghorbal Mustapha (Algeria) have been included highlighting CAF’s emphasis on ensuring top-level technical support throughout the tournament.
All appointed officials are expected to arrive in the host nations ahead of the competition for a mandatory pre-tournament workshop. The session will cover theoretical and practical training, focusing on officiating standards and the effective use of VAR and other key technologies.
