Court Convicts Nnamdi Kanu on All Terrorism Charges
An Abuja Federal High Court on Thursday convicted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on all terrorism charges filed against him by the Federal Government.
Delivering judgment, Justice James Omotosho held that the prosecution had proved its case, citing what he described as “clear, compelling and unchallenged” evidence showing that Kanu issued a series of violent and inflammatory broadcasts urging attacks and killings in furtherance of the Biafran separatist movement.
The court noted that Kanu did not challenge or rebut the recordings and statements tendered by the government, which the judge said posed a serious threat to public order and were intended to incite widespread unrest across the South-East.
Following the conviction, the matter will proceed to the sentencing phase, during which penalties for the terrorism offences will be determined.
