D'Tigers unveil provisional squad for World Cup Qualifiers in France
African champions D’Tigress of Nigeria have named a provisional roster ahead of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournament, set to take place from 11–17 March 2026 in Lyon, France.
Head coach Rena Wakama has opted for a balanced blend of proven internationals and emerging prospects as the seven-time African champions prepare for a stern test against France, Germany, South Korea, Colombia and the Philippines.
The squad is headlined by established stars Ezinne Kalu, Amy Okonkwo, Sarah Ogoke, and Promise Amukamara, whose experience will anchor the team through a demanding schedule. They are joined by an exciting group of young talents, including Pius Beggi Idubano, Adenike Olawuyi, Grace Efosa, Rita Igbokwe, Wandoo Hemba and Ayomide Tewogbade Mololuwa, all hoping to make a strong case for final selection.

Ezinne Kalu, Elizabeth Balogun, Promise Amukamara, Pius Beggi Idubano, Nicole Enabosi, Victoria Macaulay, Murjanatu Musa, Pallas Kunayi-Akpannah, Grace Efosa, Amy Okonkwo, Ayomide Tewogbade Mololuwa, Rita Igbokwe, Ifunaya Okoro, Wandoo Hemba, Adenike Olawuyi, Sarah Ogoke and Blessing Ejiofor.
Nigeria will open their campaign against Colombia on March 11, before facing South Korea (March 12), the Philippines (March 14), France (March 15), and Germany (March 17). The top three teams in the group will advance to the next round.
Although D’Tigress have already secured automatic qualification for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 in Berlin thanks to their triumph at the 2025 Women’s AfroBasket the qualifiers will serve as a vital platform to fine-tune tactics and strengthen team chemistry.
Alongside hosts Germany, continental champions Australia, Belgium, and the USA have also booked their places at the World Cup, scheduled for 4–13 September 2026. For Nigeria, Lyon presents an opportunity to sharpen their edge as they continue preparations for the global stage.
