Chiamaka Nnadozie shines in England, earns spot in WSL Team of the week

Super Falcons goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie continues to command attention in England, earning a place in Sky Sports pundit Izzy Christiansen’s Women’s Super League Team of the Week for Gameweek 19 after another standout performance for Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 25-year-old was instrumental in Brighton’s narrow 1-0 victory over Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Sunday, delivering a composed and authoritative display to secure her sixth clean sheet of the season.

Alert from the outset, Nnadozie raced off her line to deny Shannon O’Brien in the early stages, setting the tone for a confident outing. She later produced a decisive intervention from a late corner, ensuring Brighton held firm to claim all three points.

Her inclusion in Christiansen’s XI places her among some of the league’s finest performers. The defensive unit features Manchester City duo Alex Greenwood and Rebecca Knaak alongside Aston Villa’s Lynn Wilms, while a star-studded midfield of Lauren Hemp, Chelsea’s Sjoeke Nüsken, Tottenham’s Signe Gaupset, and Liverpool’s Ceri Holland provides balance and creativity.

Up front, Aston Villa’s Kirsty Hanson, Arsenal striker Alessia Russo, and Chelsea’s Lauren James complete the lineup with Manchester City boss Andree Jeglertz named coach of the week.

The recognition underscores what has been a quietly outstanding campaign for the Nigerian international. Nnadozie currently boasts the best save percentage in the WSL at 75.7 per cent, ranks third for saves per 90 minutes (3.30), and leads the league in goals prevented with an impressive 3.40. Her six clean sheets leave her joint second overall, just one behind Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton.

While her performances on the pitch continue to rise, there is lingering frustration off it. Nnadozie recently voiced her disappointment following the postponement of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, which has been moved from March to July.

“We, the players, are not happy that the WAFCON was postponed. We were preparing hard for it,” she said.

For now, however, Nnadozie’s focus remains clear, anchoring Brighton’s defence and further cementing her reputation as one of the most reliable goalkeepers in the Women’s Super League.
