D'Tigress crash out of 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup after heavy defeat to France
Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, were eliminated from the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup after suffering a heavy 111-56 defeat to France in their third group-stage game on Monday.
The African champions struggled to contain France’s attacking firepower and dominance throughout the encounter, eventually going down by 55 points to suffer their third consecutive defeat at the tournament.
France established control from the opening stages and maintained their superiority until the final buzzer, leaving D’Tigress with little opportunity to fight their way back into the contest.
The result brought Nigeria’s campaign at the World Cup to a disappointing end, with the African champions unable to meet the high expectations surrounding their participation in the competition.
D’Tigress will now shift their attention to upcoming qualifiers, where they will aim to build on the lessons from their World Cup experience and return stronger.
