NVBF unveils Japanese coach Ryan Masajedi to lead Nigeria volleyball revival
The Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF) has appointed experienced Japanese tactician Ryan Masajedi as the new Technical Adviser to the country's national volleyball teams, handing him the responsibility of steering Nigeria towards greater success on the continental stage.
Masajedi was officially unveiled on Wednesday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Package B, Abuja, as the federation reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the national teams while building a sustainable pathway for grassroots development.
Speaking during the unveiling, NVBF President, Engineer Musa Nimrod, revealed that the Japanese coach will immediately take charge of the senior women's national team as preparations gather momentum for the 2026 African Nations Championship in Kenya. He will also oversee the men's national team ahead of the continental championship scheduled for the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Beyond the senior teams, Masajedi has been tasked with driving volleyball development across Nigeria. His role includes scouting and nurturing talents in the country's six geopolitical zones, mentoring local coaches, and helping establish a stronger foundation for the sport.
Nimrod disclosed that the appointment is an initial 12-month agreement, supported by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB), with additional backing from the Nigeria Volleyball Federation.
According to the NVBF president, the federation is confident Masajedi's expertise will not only improve the performances of the national teams but also create a lasting development structure capable of producing future stars.
In his remarks, Masajedi expressed appreciation to the federation for the opportunity, promising to bring his experience to bear across all levels of Nigerian volleyball, from the senior national teams to the junior ranks.
The Japanese coach also voiced confidence in the ability of Nigerian players, stressing that with proper planning, effective structures and consistent preparation, Nigeria can emerge as one of Africa's leading volleyball nations and compete favourably on the global stage.
