D'Tigress face China again as World Cup preparations intensify

African champions Nigeria’s D’Tigress will have another opportunity to test themselves against China when both sides meet for the third and final game of their exhibition series on Wednesday, August 12.

The Nanhai Sports Center Gymnasium will host the final fixture of Nigeria’s tour, with Rena Wakama’s side hoping to sign off on a positive note after suffering two narrow defeats in the opening games.

China edged D’Tigress 70–67 in the first encounter before securing another hard-fought 69–65 victory in the second, leaving Nigeria still searching for their first win of the series.

Despite the results, the games have provided valuable preparation for Wakama and her squad as they fine-tune their tactics and assess their readiness for the 2026 FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup.

Following Wednesday’s clash, D’Tigress will leave China and continue their preparations in Spain, where Tenerife will host further warm-up matches against Spain and Belgium between August 15 and 24.

Nigeria will then move to Zaragoza for additional fixtures against Mali and Puerto Rico, with those games scheduled between August 25 and September 3.

D’Tigress will begin their World Cup campaign in Group B alongside France, Hungary and Korea Republic.

Their tournament opener comes against Korea Republic on September 4, before they face Hungary on September 5. Nigeria will round off the group stage against European powerhouse France on September 7.

With the World Cup fast approaching, Wednesday’s meeting with China offers Wakama and her players one more chance to sharpen their game before the next phase of their preparations in Spain.
