D'Tigress set for quarterfinal showdown against Cameroon at 2025 Women's FIBA Afrobasket

Reigning champions Nigeria will lock horns with familiar rivals Cameroon in the quarterfinals of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2025, scheduled for Thursday at the Palais des Sports de Treichville, Abidjan.

D'Tigress earned direct passage to the quarterfinals after topping their group with an unbeaten record, while Cameroon secured their spot with a resounding 85–64 victory over Angola in the qualification round on Wednesday night.

The fixture revives memories of a dramatic 2015 semifinal in Yaoundé, where Cameroon handed Nigeria their last defeat at the Afrobasket, edging a narrow 71–70 win. Since then, D’Tigress have embarked on a dominant run, capturing four consecutive continental titles and asserting themselves as Africa’s premier women’s basketball team.

With sights set on an unprecedented fifth straight championship, D’Tigress will need to neutralize Cameroon’s high-scoring backcourt duo, Jessica Thomas and Joelly Emmanuelle Claude Belleka, who are averaging 16 and 15 points per game respectively.

Head Coach Rena Wakama and her squad are expected to lean on their depth, experience, and defensive tenacity as they aim to extend Nigeria’s unbeaten streak and move one step closer to history.
