Dakar 2026: Nigeria's Bawa, Lawrence storm into beach volleyball quarterfinals

Nigeria’s Pamela Bawa and Joy Lawrence have booked their places in the quarter-finals of the women's beach volleyball event at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games in Senegal.

The Nigerian duo secured their passage to the last eight following an impressive 2-0 victory over Thailand's Ainthira Ninsonthi and Phattanan Wongnongwaeng in their Round of 16 encounter on Monday.

Bawa and Lawrence dominated the contest to overcome their Thai opponents and keep Nigeria's hopes of winning a medal in the competition alive.

The victory marks another important step in Nigeria's beach volleyball campaign at the ongoing Youth Olympic Games.

The pair will now face Netherlands' Jara Both and Matilda de Groot in the quarter-finals on Day Four of the competition.

Bawa and Lawrence will be hoping to maintain their winning momentum and secure a place in the semi-finals as they continue their quest for a podium finish at Dakar 2026.
