As the 2024 National Sports Festival conclude, Delta State retained the overall title of being the best team with the highest number of medals.

As of Thursday evening when the closing ceremony was taking place, the Big Heart state has amassed 322 medals.

The medals included 122 gold, 95 silver, and 105 bronze medals.

The state has shown why they are the home of sports in Nigeria, successfully retaining its title in Abeokuta and winning the National Sports Festival five times on the bounce. 

Delta state initially started slowly, but when they picked up momentum, they were untouchable, finishing the championship as the only state to win over 100 gold medals. 

Akwa Ibom finished strongly on the final day to knock off Abia in the top 10, but it's been a good outing for the majority of the states, who will now return to their respective states to prepare for Enugu 2026.
