Edo Queens go top as NWFL Premiership Super Six title race blows wide open

The 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six delivered another day of drama in Port Harcourt as Edo Queens surged to the summit, Bayelsa Queens strengthened their title defence ambitions, and FC Robo Queens handed Nasarawa Amazons their first defeat of the playoffs.

After three rounds of matches, the battle for the league crown remains as unpredictable as ever. With just two matchdays left, all six teams are still in the hunt, setting up a fascinating run-in to determine this season’s champions.

Edo Queens Run Riot

Edo Queens produced the performance of Matchday Three, dismantling Abia Angels 6-2 in a thrilling encounter that showcased their attacking firepower.

Chioma Moses wasted no time announcing herself, firing Edo Queens ahead in the third minute. Abia Angels responded through Mariam Abdulrasheed eight minutes later, but that was as close as they would come to matching the defending champions.

Moses restored Edo’s lead in first-half stoppage time before Precious Oscar extended the advantage shortly after the restart. Atume Doosuur added a fourth as Edo Queens tightened their grip on the contest.

The spotlight, however, belonged to Moses. The forward completed a sensational four-goal performance with strikes in the 72nd and 81st minutes, becoming the first player to score four goals in this year's Super Six. Blessing Saleh pulled one back late on for Abia Angels, but it was little more than a consolation in a game dominated by the Benin-based side.

The emphatic victory not only earned Edo Queens three valuable points but also gave them a crucial goal difference advantage at the top of the table.

Bayelsa Queens Win South-South Derby

Defending champions Bayelsa Queens bounced back in style, edging rivals Rivers Angels 2-1 in a fiercely contested South-South derby.

The Prosperity Girls took the lead in the 29th minute when Chiamaka Ezekwugo rose highest to head home a well-delivered corner from Dooshima Tarnum.

Rivers Angels responded positively after the break and drew level through Abasiofon Uwah, who calmly converted from the penalty spot in the 58th minute.

But Bayelsa Queens had the final say. Five minutes after Rivers' equaliser, Tarnum capped an influential display by finding the winner, sealing a vital victory that keeps Bayelsa firmly in the title conversation.

For Rivers Angels, the defeat leaves little room for error heading into the final two rounds.

Robo Queens Shock Amazons

FC Robo Queens reignited their Super Six campaign with a disciplined 2-0 victory over previously unbeaten Nasarawa Amazons.

After a cagey first half ended without a goal, the Lagos side came alive after the interval. Opeyemi Ajakaye broke the deadlock in the 59th minute before Kemi Adegbuyi doubled the advantage just five minutes later.

Nasarawa Amazons, who had entered the match with a perfect record from their opening two games, struggled to find a response as Robo Queens controlled proceedings and comfortably protected their lead until the final whistle.

The result breathed new life into Robo Queens' title ambitions while preventing the Amazons from pulling clear at the top.

Matchday Three produced 13 goals across three matches and completely reshaped the Super Six standings.

Edo Queens now lead the table on six points, ahead of Nasarawa Amazons on goal difference. Bayelsa Queens and Abia Angels remain firmly in contention with four points each, while Rivers Angels and FC Robo Queens sit just one point behind on three points.

With Thursday serving as a rest day before action resumes on Friday, the race for the 2025/26 NWFL Premiership title remains wide open. Every team still has a realistic path to glory, ensuring the final two matchdays promise plenty more twists and turns.

Matchday Three Results

Edo Queens 6-2 Abia Angels

Rivers Angels 1-2 Bayelsa Queens

FC Robo Queens 2-0 Nasarawa Amazons

Three matchdays played, two remaining, and just three points separating first from sixth. The NWFL Super Six title race is very much alive.
