Taiwo Awoniyi set for Coventry City switch
Coventry City have reportedly reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the permanent transfer of Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi, with the Nigerian forward now set to undergoing his medical ahead of the move.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that the two clubs have finalised an agreement for Awoniyi’s permanent departure from Forest, paving the way for the 29 year old to begin a new chapter under Coventry manager Frank Lampard.
Awoniyi leaves Nottingham Forest after a significant spell at the club, during which he made more than 100 appearances and played an important role in their campaigns and subsequent battles for Premier League survival.
His eminent departure has prompted an emotional reaction from Forest supporters, with some fans expressing gratitude for his contribution and one supporter suggesting that Forest might have suffered relegation without his efforts. Others called for the striker to receive a proper farewell from the club.
At Coventry, however, excitement is already building over the intend arrival of the Nigerian international. Supporters have welcomed the move, viewing Awoniyi’s experience, physical presence and goalscoring ability as a major boost to Lampard’s squad ahead of the commencement of 2026/2027.
