Emmanuel Ikpeme believes Super Sand Eagles can qualify for 2026 Beach Soccer AFCON
Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) General Secretary, Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, has expressed confidence that the Super Sand Eagles can secure qualification for the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations (BSAFCON) despite their 3-3 draw against Ghana's Black Sharks in the first leg.
Ikpeme acknowledged that Nigeria's recent absence from international beach soccer had affected the team's competitive rhythm but insisted that there was still hope of securing a place at the continental championship.
“We have not played the game for some time in terms of national beach soccer. We have just started. Except those who don't understand the game of beach soccer, it is a very tough game,” he said.
The NFF General Secretary assured the team of his commitment to ensuring that the national beach soccer side receives the necessary support to compete effectively.
“I believe there is hope. During my time, I will work to ensure that we give the beach soccer national team all the necessary support,” Ikpeme stated.
Reflecting on the first-leg encounter, Ikpeme praised Ghana's determination and tactical focus, noting that the Black Sharks demonstrated the hunger and fighting spirit required to compete at the highest level.
“I watched the match yesterday. I have told the players. Ghana came here with a clear focus and goal, and they succeeded. You could see the hunger, determination and fighting spirit. They had it. I believe that our players can equally do the same,” he added.
With the tie level at 3-3, Ikpeme believes the Super Sand Eagles have an equal opportunity to turn the contest in their favour in the return leg in Ghana.
“Fortunately, it was a drawn match, 3-3. We are going there on a clean slate. I have spoken to the players, and they have given me their word that when they go to Ghana, they will do that which nobody expects.
“The fighting spirit, commitment — I believe and have absolute confidence in these players. If they go there and do that, there is no way we won't qualify for the Beach Soccer AFCON. I am positive that they will turn around the table,” he said.
Ikpeme's confidence comes as Nigeria prepare for the decisive second leg against the Black Sharks, with both teams seeking to secure a place at the 2026 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.
The Super Sand Eagles will need to deliver a disciplined and determined performance in Ghana to overcome their opponents and keep Nigeria's hopes of continental qualification alive.
