The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honour of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, as part of a week-long national mourning announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

This was made known by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who stated that the holiday, approved by President Tinubu, is in recognition of Buhari’s service, sacrifice, and lasting contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey and national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served with dedication, integrity, and a deep commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress. Declaring this holiday allows Nigerians to reflect on his life of service and uphold the values he championed,” the Minister said.

He called on citizens to use the day to promote peace, patriotism, and national unity, in line with his vision for a prosperous and united Nigeria.

National flags across the country will continue to fly at half-mast throughout the seven-day mourning period, which began on Sunday, July 13.

The Federal Government also extended its heartfelt condolences to the Buhari family, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, praying for the peaceful repose of the late President’s soul.
