FIFA Launches “FIFA Unites: Women’s Series” in UAE – Afghan Refugee Team to Make Historic Debut

FIFA is proud to announce the FIFA Unites: Women’s Series, a pioneering women’s football competition to be held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, from 23 to 29 October 2025.

The four-team event will feature the Afghan women’s refugee team – making their first-ever appearance on the international stage – alongside the national teams of Chad, Libya, and hosts UAE. The matches will be contested in a round-robin format, with each team playing three fixtures and the overall leader crowned champion.

“This initiative is about more than just football; it is about hope, opportunity, and empowerment,” said FIFA President Gianni Infantino. “We are committed to ensuring that women everywhere can access the game and fulfil their dreams, and we thank the UAE Football Association for hosting this historic series.”

The UAE women’s national team, coached by Dutch football icon Vera Pauw, will look to build on their recent development, while Chad and Libya will be aiming to secure their first official entry in the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Rankings.

The competition will run during the Women’s International Match Calendar (Type II window) and reflects FIFA’s global strategy to expand access to football for women and girls in every corner of the world.

Fans worldwide will be able to follow the tournament live via FIFA+ streaming, ensuring maximum visibility and engagement.
