Falconets step up World Cup preparations with Poland, South Korea friendlies
Nigeria’s Falconets are stepping up their preparations for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup with two high-profile international friendlies against Poland and South Korea.
The two matches will provide Head Coach Moses Aduku and his technical crew with valuable opportunities to fine-tune the squad ahead of the tournament in Poland.
Nigeria will first take on the hosts on Friday, August 28, at the Municipal Stadium in Brzeg, with kick-off scheduled for 12 noon local time.
The Falconets will then face South Korea on September 1 at the Remes Resort & Spa Football Stadium, with the match set to begin at 4pm local time.
The two-time World Cup silver medallists arrived in Trzebnica on Tuesday and began their preparations the following day with their first training session at the Stadion Miejski, Fair Play Arena.
However, the team has been forced to make two changes to its squad after captain Joy Igbokwe and defender Faridat Abdulwahab were unable to secure visas for the tournament.
Their places have been taken by Vivian Kachi and Alaba Olabiyi, who have now joined the squad as replacements.
Nigeria will enter the World Cup in Group F, where they will face Spain, China PR and New Caledonia.
The Falconets will open their campaign against Spain on September 7, before taking on China PR on September 10 and rounding off the group stage against New Caledonia on September 13.
With their opening World Cup fixture just around the corner, the friendlies against Poland and South Korea offer the Falconets a final opportunity to test themselves against strong opposition and build momentum as they target another deep run on the global stage.
