Flamingos arrive in Morocco ahead of 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup
Nigeria’s U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, have arrived safely in Casablanca, Morocco, ahead of their campaign at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The team landed in Casablanca on Wednesday and has settled at the Ibis Hotel, where they will continue preparations for the tournament.
The Flamingos have been drawn in Group B alongside Poland, Puerto Rico and Korea DPR.
Nigeria secured their place at the tournament after defeating Benin Republic in the final round of the African qualifiers.
The Flamingos will be making their ninth appearance at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup, having previously featured in 2008, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2022, 2024 and 2025.
Their best performance at the competition came in 2022, when they finished in third place.
The team is coached by Akeem Busari, with captain Harmony Chidi expected to be one of Nigeria’s key players in Morocco.
Chidi already has experience at the U-17 World Cup, having scored at the 2024 edition in the Dominican Republic at just 14 years of age.
She returns to the global stage as captain after playing a crucial role in Nigeria’s qualification campaign, scoring five goals before adding three more at the WAFU B U-17 Girls’ Cup in September.
More than just a goalscorer, Chidi brings energy, pace and attacking threat to the Flamingos’ frontline as Nigeria prepare for another push for success on the world stage.
