Flamingos make history, beat Brazil to reach first-ever U-17 Women's World Cup Final

Nigeria's Flamingos have made history by reaching their first-ever FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup final following an impressive 3-1 victory over Brazil in Wednesday's semi-final encounter.

The Nigerian youngsters produced a commanding performance to overcome their South American opponents and become the first African nation to reach the final of the competition.

The semi-final started with both teams displaying attacking intent, but Nigeria dominated several spells and created numerous goalscoring opportunities without finding the breakthrough before half-time.

Queen Joseph, Oluwakemi Adegbuyi, Oluebube Umejiaku, Mary Dunstan, Kanyinsola Yusuf and Favour Nkwocha all tested the Brazilian defence and goalkeeper, while Brazil also threatened through Pepe.

Despite the attacking efforts from both sides, the first half ended goalless, leaving everything to play for after the interval.

The Flamingos eventually broke the deadlock in the 56th minute when Queen Joseph found the back of the net to give Nigeria a deserved lead. The forward celebrated her goal with Cristiano Ronaldo's famous 'SUIII' celebration.

Nigeria doubled their advantage in the 71st minute through Awawu Bashiru, who produced a brilliant finish to put the Flamingos firmly in control of the encounter.

Bashiru was not finished, as the Nigerian midfielder struck again in the 80th minute to complete her brace and extend Nigeria's advantage to 3-0.

Brazil managed to pull a goal back in the 89th minute through Greise Kelly, but it proved insufficient to prevent Nigeria from securing a memorable victory.

The result sends the Flamingos into Saturday's final, where they will face Japan, who defeated defending champions Korea DPR 4-1 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the other semi-final.

Nigeria will now have the opportunity to make further history by becoming the first African nation to win the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup.
