World champion Folashade Oluwafemiayo reaffirmed her legendary status by winning gold and setting a new world record in the women’s up to 86kg category at the ongoing World Para Powerlifting Championships in Cairo, Egypt.

The Nigerian powerhouse lifted 168kg, surpassing her previous world mark of 167kg, to claim her fourth World Championships title. The feat adds to her glittering career haul, which already includes two Paralympic gold medals.

Nigeria’s impressive run in Cairo continued with Ifeoluwa Alake and Franca Anigbogu taking silver and bronze respectively in the women’s up to 61kg category. Competing against a formidable lineup, they finished behind Egypt’s Rehab Ahmed, the Paris 2024 Paralympic champion, who lifted 131kg for gold. Alake managed 128kg, while Anigbogu followed closely with 126kg.

In another fine performance, Onyinyechi Mark clinched silver in the women’s up to 67kg category after an impressive lift, finishing behind China’s Cui Jianjin, with Egypt’s Fatma Elyan securing bronze.

With multiple podium finishes and a record-breaking performance, Team Nigeria once again underlined its dominance in para powerlifting, cementing its reputation as one of the sport’s true global powerhouses.
