Futsal AFCON final: Soufian Charraoui vows Morocco will fight for fourth African crown
Morocco international Soufian Charraoui has vowed that the Atlas Lions will do everything possible to retain their continental crown and make their supporters proud when they face Angola in the final of the 2026 CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday.
The defending champions booked their place in the final with a commanding 6-0 victory over Egypt in Monday’s semi-final at the Moulay Abdellah Sports Hall in Rabat, extending their pursuit of a fourth consecutive African title.
Charraoui scored twice in the emphatic win, helping Morocco reach their fourth successive final under coach Hicham Dguig.
Speaking to CAFOnline after the match, the Netherlands-based pivot said Morocco’s continued success was the product of hard work, discipline and unity within the squad.
“We work very hard to get here,” Charraoui said. “It’s difficult to become good, but more difficult to stay good, so we train a lot and the coach talks with us a lot.”
The Moroccan star also highlighted the importance of the support the team receives at home, insisting that the players feel a strong responsibility to repay the faith of their fans.
“We fight for each other, we die for each other. We have the best fans in the world, and we can’t let them down. We give everything to make them proud,” he added.
Charraoui said Morocco maintained their usual intensity against Egypt despite facing a respected opponent with quality players competing for leading European clubs.
“Every match we go all out. Egypt is a very good team, but we train hard and prepare too, and the coach helps us a lot,” he explained.
He also acknowledged Egypt’s strength, pointing to the experience of players representing clubs such as Benfica and Inter Movistar.
The semi-final victory was another impressive performance from Morocco, who controlled the contest and secured their place in the final without conceding a goal.
The Atlas Lions will now face Angola, who booked their place in the title decider after coming from two goals behind to defeat Algeria 3-2 in the other semi-final.
Looking ahead to the final, Charraoui made it clear that the hosts remain focused on lifting the trophy rather than being distracted by their previous achievements.
“Our mindset is to win the cup here, and we’ll do everything to prepare for the final. It’s not an easy match, but we hope to win, inshallah,” he said.
The forward also revealed that his participation in the tournament had been uncertain because of a foot problem that troubled him for three months.
Charraoui said he was initially left out of the squad while preparing at the Mohammed VI Football Complex, before receiving medical clearance shortly before the competition began.
“I wasn’t in good shape. I had a problem with my foot for three months,” he disclosed, explaining that he received the green light to join the squad just one day before the tournament started.
He expressed gratitude to the medical team and coach Dguig for helping him regain his fitness and confidence in time to contribute to Morocco’s campaign.
“I’m very thankful to the medical staff and the coach for those four days. I’m back now and feel very good and confident. I can play and fight for my country,” he said.
Morocco will meet Angola in the final on Wednesday, October 21, at 8 p.m. local time in Rabat, while Egypt and Algeria will contest the third-place match earlier in the day.
The hosts are seeking to retain the title they won in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Victory over Angola would make Morocco the first nation to claim four CAF Futsal Africa Cup of Nations titles.
With home support behind them and another continental crown within reach, Charraoui and his teammates will look to finish their campaign with a performance worthy of their status as Africa’s defending champions.
