Godwin Obaje closes in on NPFL century

Nigeria Premier Football League top scorer race is set for a thrilling final day showdown after Godwin Obaje reclaimed top spot on the goals chart with a match-winning brace for Enugu Rangers against Bendel Insurance.

Obaje delivered when it mattered most, scoring in the 16th and 65th minutes to hand Rangers a crucial 2-1 home victory and move his tally to 14 goals for the season.

The experienced striker has now surged ahead in the race for the league’s Golden Boot while also edging closer to a remarkable personal milestone just one goal away from hitting 100 career goals in the NPFL.

With the final round of fixtures scheduled for Sunday, May 24, attention will now turn to whether Obaje can complete his century in grand style while also securing the league’s top scorer award.

The battle, however, remains wide open. Victor Mbaoma kept himself firmly in contention after netting the decisive winner for Remo Stars against Bayelsa United to take his tally to 13 goals.

Mbaoma is level with Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City, ensuring the chase for the scoring crown will go right down to the final whistle of the season.

Just like the title race and relegation battle, the contest for the NPFL Golden Boot is heading for a dramatic finish.
