Governor Otti Denies Defection Rumours, Reaffirms Commitment to Labour Party

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has dismissed rumours suggesting he is planning to defect from the Labour Party (LP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

The speculation followed the circulation of a photograph showing Governor Otti during a recent visit to his Enugu State counterpart, Governor Peter Mbah. The image, shared by some individuals from Abia State on social media, was accompanied by claims that the visit was linked to ongoing discussions about Otti’s alleged defection to the ruling APC.

In a statement issued by his media team, Governor Otti categorically denied the reports, affirming his loyalty to the Labour Party—the platform on which he was elected governor in 2023.

"Governor Alex Otti remains a committed and proud member of the Labour Party, the platform under which the good people of Abia overwhelmingly elected him to serve," the statement read.

The governor emphasized that his administration remains focused on delivering good governance, rebuilding infrastructure, and promoting transparency and accountability in the state.

He urged the public to disregard the defection rumours, describing them as "cheap propaganda" aimed at distracting his government from its development agenda.

“His focus remains unshaken—to rebuild Abia, restore accountability, and deliver the dividends of democracy to every citizen of the State,” the statement added.
