“We’ve dreamed of it” - Harmony Chidi seeks historic glory in U17 World Cup final clash with Japan

Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s National Team captain, Harmony Chidi, has described reaching the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup Final as a dream come true, while emphasizing how much bringing the trophy home would mean to her country.

Ahead of the high-stakes final against Japan, the star striker reflected on the team's journey and what victory would signify.

"Reaching the final is a huge milestone for us—it's something we've dreamed of for a long time," Chidi said.

"Winning it would be a moment of absolute joy and a memory that stays with us forever. It’s something that I, my teammates, our coaches, and the entire nation would be immensely proud of."

Flamingos bounced back from opening matchday loss to Poland (2-1) recording five straight victories and becoming the first African team to make it to the tournaments final surpassing theirs and Ghana's bronze medal record.

The only undefeated side in the competition, Japan stands on their way. The West African side were in similar position against their semifinal opponents, Brazil which was undefeated before the last four showdown and secured a 3-1 win.

The Asian side have more goals and only conceded two so far in the tournament.

This makes the final a titanic one as Nigeria aim for maiden title while Japan hope to win their second title.
