Huntelaar hails Tolu Arokodare's resurgence, calls Nigeria forward a dangerous focal point
Former Ajax and Real Madrid striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has praised Tolu Arokodare’s impressive start to the season, describing the Nigerian forward as a dangerous focal point for opposing defences.
Arokodare has enjoyed a strong resurgence since joining his new Eredivisie club on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers during the summer transfer window, contributing six goals and two assists in nine appearances across all competitions.
The 25-year-old has quickly moved beyond his difficult spell in England, rediscovering the confidence and consistency that have made him an important attacking outlet for his new side.
Speaking on Voetbal International’s Pak Schaal Podcast, Huntelaar highlighted Arokodare’s physical presence and goalscoring threat.
“I think Tolu is doing well. He has scored his goals and is dangerous as a focal point when he is on the pitch,” the former Netherlands international said.
Arokodare’s impressive club form also earned him a recall to the Super Eagles for Nigeria’s September 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau.
The striker featured in both matches but was unable to replicate his club form in front of goal. Nigeria began their qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau.
His resurgence at club level follows a challenging spell at Wolves, where he struggled to establish himself after moving to the Premier League.
The loan move has given Arokodare regular playing time and an opportunity to rebuild his confidence. His eight goal contributions in nine appearances have also provided his new club with a reliable attacking option.
With his form continuing to attract attention, Arokodare will be hoping to maintain his scoring run and strengthen his position among Nigeria’s attacking options ahead of their upcoming fixtures.
