Freezy Macbones dethrones Godday Appah as Phyna, Carter Efe win bouts

Ghanaian boxer Seth “Freezy Macbones” Gyimah dethroned Nigeria’s Godday “Zodsolo” Appah to claim the WBO African Light Heavyweight Continental Championship at Chaos in the Ring in Lagos on Thursday.

The championship bout headlined an action-packed night of professional boxing, celebrity contests and knockout victories at the Balmoral Convention Centre, Federal Palace Hotel, Victoria Island.

The headline fight delivered 10 competitive rounds, with both boxers maintaining a high tempo throughout the contest.

Freezy Macbones impressed with his speed and movement, darting around the ring while unleashing combinations before Appah could respond. The Nigerian champion, however, refused to surrender his title without a fight, consistently moving forward and responding with powerful punches of his own.

The intensity remained high from the opening bell to the final round, with both fighters exchanging combinations in a closely contested battle.

Despite the fierce exchanges, the rivalry appeared to ease as the fight progressed, with the two boxers showing increasing respect and cordiality between rounds.

After 10 rounds, the judges scored the contest 95-93, 95-93 and 94-94 in favour of Freezy Macbones, handing the Ghanaian a unanimous decision victory and the WBO African title.

The celebrity bouts also provided plenty of entertainment for the Lagos crowd.

Skit maker Carter Efe and rapper Speed Darlington produced one of the evening’s most entertaining contests, with Carter Efe mixing his punches with unexpected dance moves while engaging the spectators.

Speed Darlington spent much of the encounter protecting his face as Carter Efe continued to press forward and attack.

Carter Efe was eventually declared the winner and wasted little time calling for another major challenge, expressing his desire to face boxing legend Floyd Mayweather.

The female celebrity bout between reality television star Phyna and actress Nkechi Blessing generated another loud response from the crowd.

Both fighters came out aggressively and exchanged punches from the opening bell, turning what was initially billed as a celebrity contest into a competitive encounter.

Phyna eventually found the decisive opening and stopped Nkechi Blessing, securing an emphatic victory.

The professional undercard also produced several impressive performances and stoppages.

Israel Makinde recorded a first-round knockout over Abiodun Muyideen, while Basit “Joker Boy” Adebayo stopped Toheeb Kehinde in the sixth round.

Michael “Killerboy” Babalola, Yusuf Adisa Adeniji and Muibi Lekan also secured victories as the Lagos boxing event delivered an entertaining night of action.
