IJF welcomes Nigeria Judo Federation Caretaker Committee

The International Judo Federation (IJF) has welcomed steps taken by Nigeria’s National Sports Commission (NSC) to address governance issues within the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), expressing support for a transparent, fair and inclusive electoral process.

In a letter dated 9 October 2026 and addressed to NSC Director General, Hon. Bukola Olopade, the IJF acknowledged receipt of the Commission’s correspondence of 25 September concerning the administrative status of the NJF.

Signed by IJF Secretary General Dr Lisa Allan, the letter noted the dissolution of the NJF Board and the assumption of responsibilities by the federation’s Secretary General, Ms Ngozi.

The international body also acknowledged the establishment of a Caretaker Committee tasked with amending the NJF Constitution and convening an electoral General Assembly. It further noted that members of the committee had undertaken not to contest in the forthcoming elections.

The IJF welcomed the measures being taken to resolve the federation’s governance challenges and said it supported efforts to ensure that the electoral process was conducted transparently and inclusively.

“We trust that the process will be conducted in accordance with the applicable regulations and requirements,” Allan stated in the letter.

The IJF also wished the NSC success in the process and requested regular updates on developments, reaffirming its commitment to continued cooperation.

The letter signals the international federation’s support for the ongoing efforts to address administrative concerns within Nigerian judo and establish a credible pathway towards fresh elections.
